The 2nd Steering Committee Session of the Inter-regional Platform for Sustainable Management of Desert Locust and other Trans-boundary Pests, co-chaired by DLCO-EA and ICPAC was officially opened by the 2nd Vice Chairperson of the DLCO-EA Governing Council of Ministers, Hon Maj (Rtd) Bwino Fred Kyakulaga (MP), Uganda’s Minister of State (Agriculture), Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry and Fisheries (MAAIF).
In his opening remarks, Hon Bwino commended DLCO-EA and IGAD for their efforts to strengthen synergies for the long-term management and control of desert locusts and other trans-boundary pests in the region. He further emphasized on the collaboration and partnerships between various stakeholders, including governments and private sector, in mobilizing resources to respond to trans-boundary pests at the highest level of governance.
