DLCO-EA and BADEA Build Regional Capacity in Migratory Pest Management

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – June 2026: The Desert Locust Control Organization for Eastern Africa (DLCO-EA), with support from the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), has successfully completed a Regional Master Training of Trainers (ToT) on Migratory Pest Management.

The four-day program, held in Entebbe, Uganda, brought together 20 participants from Ethiopia, Kenya, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda to develop a skilled network of Master Trainers capable of leading national efforts against migratory pests such as desert locusts, quelea birds, and African armyworms.

Participants engaged in interactive sessions and field demonstrations, gaining practical skills in pest surveillance, digital data collection using Kobo Toolbox, spray equipment calibration, pesticide application, and safe control operations.

The training also strengthened their facilitation, communication, and adult learning competencies, ensuring technical knowledge can be effectively translated into action.
